In Venice we were able to meet a Gondola maker by the name
of Lorenzo. It takes 3 months to create, using 7 kinds of wood, and requires 8
coats of paint to seal the wood. Each gondola has a piece (shown above) with 6
fins, representing the 6 districts in the city, and 3 center pieces that
represent the islands Murano, Burano and Lido, and the half-moon shape
represents the Rialto Bridge. The gondola costs approximately €35-40K,
and the license to operate is €250K. Really makes you appreciate only
paying €80
for a tour of the beautiful and unique city!
